The Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps
The Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps is esstentially a marching band. There is a hornline, drumline, color guard, and front ensemble. We perform and compete against other drum corps with a show that is put together by our wonderful staff. The organization that we are under is called Drum Corps International or DCI. This is the easiest way to explain what drum corps is, however, its so much more than a marching band. Drum Corps pushes you physically and mentally challenges you to be better than you ever expected you could be and allows you to create bonds with people that will last a lifetime. We practice for many hours rain or shine every weekend in the overflow parking lot of the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH. There we put together a show that is complex both musically and with meaning. Our staff is comprised of some of the best and most experinced performers and musicans in DCI. The corps itself is made up off young people from 14-21 from all over the country with all different backgrounds all here for one thing: drum corps. This is life to us, we dedicate hours, time, and lots of money not just to do something, but because it means everything to us. When you travel all across the country to compete in huge stadiums including the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiannapolis, when you practice for 11-13 hours a day, when you are away from you home for many weeks, the Spartans become your home and your family. Marching with them has taught me many things about myself and I have grown and matured into a better person. I still have many things to learn and improve on, but the Spartans are an organization that truly examplifies the doors that music can open for you and the passion that can be people can have when you bring people together to be apart of something that bigger than the individual.
The Photos
Being that I was at reherasal I was limited to how many photos/what type of photos I could take. What I wanted to capture in these photos was one: what happens at rehersal, two: the setting we reherse in, and most importantly three: how goofy and weird we can be. One of the things that I love most about drum corps is that you can be whomever you want to be. These pictures aren't my best work, but they represent an organzation i'm really passionate about and has become an important part of my life.
