Shadow in a Piece of Art
This photograph was taken at the Narrows Art Center in Fall River. It depicts a piece of artwork that was presented there. The lighting from above was very bright so the shadow casts from the objects in the piece can be clearly seen against the white of the wall. There is a lot of color in this photo, and it is brought out even more from the contrast of the white wall in the background. I took this photo pretty close-up to get the shadow on the wall. Therefore I used the close-up setting on my camera. Overall this photo has interesting subject matter which is intriguing to the eye and because of the shadow captured in the photograph it adds to the composition.
Reflection in the Brook
This is one of my favorite photos that i took. Right after one of the first snowstorms of the season I went to the brook around 9am the sun was out and very bright with very few clouds in the sky. This created the perfect setting for reflection in the water of the brook as depicted in the photo. Although the sunlight in the corner is a little overexposed it only adds to the composition of the photo instead of detracting from it. I took this photo from on a hill similar to the one in the photo. I wanted to get the branches of the tree close so as to see the ice frozen on them so i think i zoomed in a bit. This picture, although in color, it mainly composed of black and white. The starkness of the tree contrasts against the pure white of the snow. The dark water reflects the tree trunk and the light from the sun. I love that you can see the ripples in the water which gives the picture a sense of movement.
Line and Shape in the School Walls
When I look at this photo my eyes travel up and up and up leaving me wondering what it beyond the wall. This photo gives the viewer a sense of motion in that the leading lines travel the eye upward and continue on with seemingly no end. The repetition in the bricks add to the sense of "going upwards" in the photo. The point-of-view in this photograph creates that sense of "going upwards". By taking the photo with the lens looking up the wall it created that illusion. I chose to put this photo in black and white because it brought out the details of the cracks and imperfections in the bricks as well as brought together the uniformity of them needed to create repetition.
Line and Shape in the School Building
This photo is all about triangles. When I took this photo I think it was one of my first weeks in Digital Photography so I had yet to learn about the composition of a photo and how to take a good one. So when I took this photo, I didn't realize that I was getting a really good composition of triangles, leadings lines, and repetition until looking at it later. I chose to put this photo in black and white because it highlights the features of the photo. From the edges of the building, to the clouds in the sky. I love the repletion of the windows, they also slightly reflect the sky. The little portion of the top of the building adds interest to the subject matter. Putting this photo in black and white also added a sense of darkness and mysterious-ness to an otherwise particularly average subject matter of a school building.
Line and Shape in the Old Auditorium
This photo was taken in the old auditorium of our wonderful high school. The school, not seemingly filled with interesting subject matter, actually came through in this photo. The repetition of the seats, and then the shadow created by them, and then the repetition of the shadow in the seats is my favorite part. To capture all of this I had bent down and took the shot leveled with the height of the seats. By taking it at this point of view I could include all the parts of the composition; the shadow, the repetition, and the leading lines of the floor.
Shadows from the Tree
this picture was taken at my house right after one if the first snow storms of the season. Just like the reflection in the brook photo I took this around 9am where the sun was bright and the snow reflected that light everything casting shadows. Although the sunlight in the corner is a little overexposed it only adds to the composition of the photo. The tree which is the main focus on the photo has these wonderful thin branches that glisten in the sunlight because if the ice that is frozen on them. The shadows that the tree and its branches cast onto the snow are really different and interesting. The shape of the tree in general it's different angles and shapes really create a dynamic subject matter.
